OMGSH, We’re BACK!!!

I’ve been spending the past couple weeks at my dads place,

and it turns out mom went to stay with her friends and “forgot” to pay the internets bill.

So the site died.

I called an emergency intervention(proper usage?) and brought the server back with me, then the motherboard on the server PC crashed so i had to transfer stuff over.

I’ve only now been able to get everything figured out(Router configs, DNS IP changes, firewall rules, ETC)

So now, hopefully, everything works :)

I’m not dead :/

Been a REALLY busy week, haven’t gotten around to posting, hurrah to those who stuck around(all 12 of you)

Now let’s all send hatemail to SiLeNt for not posting anything.

I’ll return to my regular daily features after the long weekend.

I wish…

That the iPod Shuffles(mbe all iPods, i dunno) controls could be used when it’s connected to the computer.

So pushing the Next button on the shuffle changes to the next iTunes song, etc.

As far as dealing with it being upside down, either reverse the controls(setting in prefs) or mount the dock upside down(Most people I know have a desk with a console around the monitor, mount it to the underside of that)

From a technical standpoint, I highly doubt that this is gonna happen with the current generation of iPods(MAYBE the iTouch, but unlikely) simply because all the iPod is is just a standard Flash based MP3 player with scripts built into the firmware to trigger iTunes. None of the buttons are mapped to the USB half of the equation.

Say Wha? Server Crash? I’ve no clue what you’re talkin about.

BREAKTHROUGH.

In a recent googleing of the site(I’m waiting for them to update with the new site/posts)

I found something amazing,

Click

Basically, it’s a link to googles old cache of the site.

From here, you can either click the title, OR you can hit the small Cache link after the descryption, and be brought to how google cached it.

So far I’ve had limited Success with this, some posts worked, some didn’t.

Because of this find, I’m going to try to restore as many old posts as I can from the ones that were saved :)

Song of the Day > May 10/11 Weekend Edition > Danger! High Voltage

Day of new features.

I’m working on getting a little further away from the Gaming theme we’ve had going(the old slogan for the site used to be “Your Daily source of Random”

So now I’m introducing the Song of the Day, a daily feature with a (semi?) random selection of songs.

Today’s song is Electric Six’s High Voltage, which, imo, is pretty freakin epic.

Hit up the read link for the awesomeness(Music vid)

P.S. We’re hunting down posters that can contribute TV related stuff, just make an account(Bottom of the sidebar), log in, click WRITE then write up a TV related post, if it gets approved by an admin, it’ll appear on the homepage :)

The Weekend Lulz > May 10/11, 2008 > If on Fire…

New feature that I just came up with.

Back in the day before the server crash, I’d usually do just a single WTFOTD late night Sunday.

now I’ve come up with a better idea.

This weeks TWL comes to me(us?) via StumbleUpon*FTW?)

Basically it’s a parody of the meaninglesness of “Safety Warnings” conjured up by government agencies. Now I’m a Canadaian, so’ve never seen these before, but it’s still pertty funny.

The site is a list of pictures(presumabely created by gov’t officials) that are supposed to propel a safety message(With the accomapnying caption). but this dude changed the caption to say some pretty funny stuff.

Here’s my fav.

Do not drive a station wagon if a utility pole is protruding from the hood.

My Comments on Gears 2 Gameplay!

Well, after watching the gameplay just now I have to say that I enjoyed it, the game really looked more intense, and the gun models looked improved. One of the things that was in the video was Marcus picking up a locust and using it as a not so human human shield! I actually thought this was a damn cool addition. Although the game is already looking slightly improved in every aspect, the chainsaw duels are not what you were expecting, but who knows, I did see him chainsaw someone from behind without the enemy turning around.

WTF of the Day > May 9, 2008 > Airline check-in from home

Todays WTFOTD comes to me via my own head(for once) today, on my way to school(I have to take 3 busses and a mini ferry) I noticed these check in kiosks right outside the terminal of the ferry(lobby of a hotel). And that got me to thinking.

WHY?

The whole idea of checking in(at an airport) is so that they know you’re there and can contact you if needbe. And I somewhat understand the concept of these booths at major connections to the airport(there’s a bus that goes from hotel straight to the airport), usually these are the last place people stop before the airport so it sorta makes sense.

But what Really gets me is the idea of internet check ins.

It completely defies the purpose of checking in.

Sure, you usually go straight from house to plane, but srsly, WTF.

Here’s an idea. Fire your site designers(that you pay 10xthousands of dollars to, and use that money to get more checkin clerks and more machines AT THE AIRPORT.

That’s my rant, you don’t like it. Well I don’t care.

Got Milk?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment. No comments

Downtime

Sorry guys, in an effort to get Permalinks to work(when you click a post, the url will be the date and name of the post instead of /?p=<a number>)

I accidently crashed the server, and have been working hard to get it back up.

now it’s back up, but may go down for periods of time, just check back in about an hour and it should be good.

UPDATE:

First off, forgot to mention, Avatars are now working, note that we use the Gravatar service, which matches your email with an avatar that you set. I highly recommend setting one for all your emails as Gravatars are used everywhere these days.

In Other news

Permalinks are now working.

So now, a link to a post will look much nicer, and won;t change over time.

ie.

This post old link

http://thegreendonkey.com/?p=47

New link

http://thegreendonkey.com/2008/05/09/downtime/

The old ones still work, but shouldn’t be used in the future.

Sly Cooper 4 in The Works?

Well, I was a HUGE fan of Sly Cooper games back on the Ps2, and I really think that the series puts Ratchet & Clank to shame. Although Sucker Punch is working on a Ps3 exclusive at the moment, an employee of the company was quoted to say “I think it’s extremely likely that you’ll see us return to the ‘Sly Cooper’ franchise at some point in the future.” Personally I think it’s a great idea, and I really hope to see that tiny little bit of information turn into something big.

Gears of War 2 Gameplay To Air This Friday….

On Gametrailers TV on Spike (1AM PST.) I for one didn’t like Gears of War, but I am planning on giving the second one a chance. I’ve been watching Gametrailers TV every Friday and it seems to catch a ton of exclusive trailers and stories, maybe because it’s the only gaming TV show that airs in Canada, but it’s definitely worth checking out. Remember, if you miss it, you can always catch Gametrailers TV episodes anytime on Gametrailers.com

Happy watching, SiLeNt7x

SWEET, New BF:BC Coverage Lookin’ Good!

Well, IGN has just posted a single player preview of Battlefield: Bad Company, and their feedback is sounding pretty positive! You can check it out HERE. The preview seems to mention that the new demo will be single player, which I have mixed feelings about because I would like to see the UPDATED multiplayer build, but I would also like to test out the single player. I also just found an interview with DICE! Check it out HERE!

The Big List! Top 11 Games I’m Excited For!

Well, keep in mind that this list gives you strictly my opinion on these games, so there’s no need to get angry if my opinions differ. That said, let’s get on to calling your favorite games trash. Also, I reserve the right to make my list 11 games long rather than 10 because that’s how I roll. Remember this list is made with 360 only in mind. Clicking a game’s title will take you to that game’s video page on Gametrailers.com. Without further ado, the list. (Hit Read More)
